What’s Ahead for Indonesia’s Business Growth in 2025?

November 2024

Moores Rowland Indonesia’s Mei Nie Tan, partner, accounting and outsourcing, and Baudouin Coomans, partner, business development, share their expert outlook for business growth in Indonesia for 2025 under the country’s new president, Prabowo Subianto. A member of Praxity, a global alliance of leading independent tax and business advisors, Moores Rowland Indonesia provides essential auditing and accounting, tax, legal, corporate sustainability, and human rights services.

What expectations do you have for Indonesia in 2025 and for President Subianto’s first 100 days?

Indonesia’s past two presidents were the first to be democratically elected and serve two five-year terms, the maximum under Indonesia’s constitution. We expect President Subianto to do the same. This will provide the stability and investor confidence the country needs to continue  building on.

Domestically, President Subianto promises to focus on infrastructure development, job creation, poverty alleviation, and regional/cross border business activity. He is likely to prioritize large-scale infrastructure projects and human capital development to boost the economy and create jobs. Additionally, securing foreign direct investment (FDI), particularly in manufacturing and renewable energy, will be key to Subianto’s economic strategy. We have worked before with many members of President Subianto’s new cabinet and other influential officials, and look forward to continuing those relationships.

What are some of the trends in the country that are material to Moores Rowland Indonesia?

Because of Indonesia’s location, pro-business government, and geopolitical stance as a bridge between major powers, multinational companies look to Moores Rowland Indonesia to guide them through the complexities of regional integration, understand the cultural and regulatory differences across ASEAN, and to develop appropriate growth strategies.

What does 2025 hold for Moores Rowland Indonesia?

Indonesia’s fast growing economy, the dominant economy in Southeast Asia, stable political climate, abundance of natural resources, reasonable labour costs and young, talented workforce translates to great opportunities and a positive business forecast for our firm.

We have the knowledge and relationships to support global investors in the future development of the country’s industrial sector such as the electric vehicle industry, and its supply chain leaders. Indonesia is a major supplier of nickel for EV batteries, in which several of our clients dominate. This sets us up for when Indonesia is an even more strategic player in EV production with a controlling regional market share.

The Indonesia government aims to achieve economic growth in 2025 by focusing on sustainable inflation, digitalization, and climate change initiatives. This will put us ahead of our competitors, as we have the professional services to support those initiatives. We also conduct human rights due diligence (HRDD) and sustainability training through our Foundation for International Human Rights Reporting Standards (FIHRRST).

Moores Rowland Indonesia will be even more active in providing insights on ESG reporting and international sustainability standards, and recommendations on sustainability strategies for positive social and environmental impact.

We are transforming our business operations with the help of AI and IT digitalization, which is reshaping our businesses approach and bringing efficiencies, agility and customer-centric ideas. All of which makes for an exciting journey in 2025 and the years ahead.
